Itinerary
DAY 1: Ivato Airport / Antananarivo
- Welcome at Ivato airport (depending on flight schedule).
- Transfer to the hotel.
- Departure by car to Ambanja.
- Full board or half board (depending on arrival time) and overnight at Savanna Café hotel.
DAY 2: Antananarivo / Ampefy / Tsiroanomandidy
- Departure for Tsiroanomandidy via the Ampefy area, characterized by volcanic landscapes and classified as an ecotourism destination by Madagascar National Parks. Volcanos dating back two million years and over 40 volcanic lakes, including Lake Itasy, are scattered over a 400 km² region. Ampefy is not on the lakeshore but sits on the Kavitaha, an outlet of Itasy separated by rocky accumulations forming beautiful waterfalls during the high water season. There is also a carbonated spring. Finally, to end the visit beautifully, marvel at the geysers and the Lily waterfall.
- After lunch, resume the road to Tsiroanomandidy.
- Dinner and overnight at a local guesthouse or camping.
DAY 3: Tsiroanomandidy / Ankalalo
- Departure on a dirt road from Antsiroanomandidy to Morafenobe to Maintirano.
- Crossing the Bongolava plateaus discovering mountain landscapes with vast savannahs and primary forests.
- After passing through the villages of Mahatsinjo and Beravina, arrival at Antalalo camp.
- Lunch en route.
- Dinner and overnight camping.
DAY 4: Ankalalo / Ankavandra
- Drive to Ankavandra crossing the landscapes of the Bongolava plateaus.
- Lunch en route.
- Dinner and overnight camping.
DAY 5: Manambolo River Descent: Ankavandra – Ambala Lake – Tsianaloka
- Descent of the Manambolo River by pirogue. The Bongolava region is isolated from Madagascar, accessible only by pirogue or on foot, with landscapes stripped by erosion.
- Picnic en route before arriving at Ambala Lake.
- Dinner and overnight camping.
DAY 6: Tsianaloka / Ankilimany
- Continuation of the descent, approaching the Tsingy while admiring lush landscapes where calm and tranquility reign in this wild nature.
- Picnic.
- Dinner and overnight camping at Ankilimany.
DAY 7: Ankilimany / Yaouly
- Passage through canyons where the river color changes from blue to green until reaching the entrance of the Manambolo gorge, near the natural pool of the Youly waterfall.
- Picnic.
- Dinner and overnight camping.
DAY 8: Yaouly / Bekopaka (Tsingy de Bemaraha)
- Last day of the descent, starting with a swim in the natural pool of Yaouly enjoying its beautiful waterfalls.
- Continuation of the descent by crossing the Manambolo gorge again.
- Arrival at the foot of the Tsingy de Bemaraha in the afternoon.
- Picnic.
- Dinner and overnight camping.
DAY 9: Tsingy de Bemaraha
- Unique in the world, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, characterized by large karst canyons shaped like needles. Madagascar’s largest protected area, covering 15,000 ha, a typical natural biotope with an impressive limestone cathedral including many caves, deciduous primary forests with xerophilous plants, home to several species of lemurs and birds. Also found here are remains of the ancient Malagasy civilization, the Vazimba tomb.
- Picnic.
- Dinner and overnight camping.
DAY 10: Tsingy de Bemaraha / Morondava
- Departure for Morondava via Belo for lunch, then take the ferry crossing the river again to reach Morondava, famous for its baobabs including one with a circumference of 13 m and over 700 years old considered sacred. There is also the passage of the “Lovers Baobabs” before finally arriving at the famous Baobab Alley to admire the sunset.
- Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 11: Morondava / Antananarivo
- Depending on flight schedule, transfer to the airport, flight to Antananarivo.
- Transfer to the hotel.
- Full board or half board (depending on arrival time in Antananarivo) and overnight at Savanna Café hotel.
DAY 12: Antananarivo / Ivato Airport
- After breakfast, if the flight schedule allows, visit the Blue Hill "Ambohimanga" for an introduction to the royal history of the Merina kingdom.
- Lunch in a restaurant.
- Visit the craft market of La Digue in the afternoon.
- After dinner, transfer to the airport (depending on flight schedule).
