Itinerary
DAY 1: Diego Suarez Airport / Diego Suarez (city tour)
- Meet and greet at Diego Suarez airport (depending on flight schedule),
- Transfer and check-in at the hotel.
- Historical city tour to discover its charm. As the northern capital of Madagascar and a strategic port, the city retains monuments from its glorious colonial past.
- Admire Diego Suarez Bay, the 2nd largest (156 km) after Rio de Janeiro's, along with its Sugar Loaf.
- Dinner and overnight at Allamanda Hotel.
DAY 2: Diego Suarez / The 3 Bays / Diego Suarez (by quad)
- Full-day excursion to the 3 Bays (Sakalava Bay, Dunes Bay, Pigeons Bay) via a 300-year-old baobab tree.
- Picnic lunch at Dunes Bay, ideal for swimming.
- Possible turtle sightings depending on the season.
- Continue to the fishing village of Ramena to meet locals, students, and teachers. Stop at Sugar Loaf to watch the sunset.
- Dinner and overnight at Allamanda Hotel.
DAY 3: Diego Suarez / Emerald Sea / Diego Suarez
- Transfer to the village of Ramena.
- Day trip by traditional canoe to the Emerald Sea, with crystal-clear turquoise waters and remarkable underwater landscapes, including marine Tsingy.
- Snorkeling and swimming.
- Seafood lunch on a white sandy beach.
- Return to Diego Suarez in the afternoon.
- Dinner and overnight at Allamanda Hotel.
DAY 4: Diego Suarez / Amber Mountain / Joffreville
- Early departure to Amber Mountain National Park and Special Reserve.
- Morning hike in dense forest hosting high endemism, precious woods such as Dalbergia chlorocarpa and Canarium madagascariensis, and the world’s smallest chameleon (Brookesia minima tuberculata).
- Picnic lunch during the visit.
- Afternoon exploration of lakes, waterfalls (Antomboka and Sacred waterfalls), and rich biodiversity.
- Dinner and overnight at Nature Lodge.
DAY 5: Joffreville / Red Tsingy / Ankify
- Early departure by vehicle to the Red Tsingy — a spectacular natural site sculpted by wind and erosion.
- Lunch at Chez Violette restaurant.
- Afternoon transfer to Ankify.
- Dinner and overnight at Ankify Lodge.
DAY 6: Ankify / Millot Plantations / Ankarafantsika
- 4x4 departure to Ambanja to visit Millot plantations: cacao, vetiver, ravintsara, pepper, combava, 4-spice, pink berries.
- Discover cacao processing (sorting, fermentation, drying) and visit the perfume distillery in the ylang-ylang fields.
- Continue the journey via RN6 then RN4 to Ankarafantsika.
- Lunch at a local eatery on the way.
- Evening arrival at Ankarafantsika.
- Dinner and overnight at Blue Vanga Lodge.
DAY 7: Ankarafantsika
- Morning canoe ride on Lake Ravelobe to observe birds and aquatic species: Ankoay fishing eagle, Nile crocodiles, wild ducks, aquatic plants.
- Discover local traditions and rituals related to the lake.
- Picnic lunch in the park.
- 2 to 3-hour hike in the park to observe lemurs, birds, reptiles, and visit a botanical garden (sacred woods such as rosewood and mpanjakaben’ny tany).
- Dinner and overnight at Blue Vanga Lodge.
DAY 8: Ankarafantsika / Anjohibe Caves / Majunga
- Drive to Anjohibe Caves.
- Explore caves with impressive stalactites and stalagmites.
- Picnic and swim in a natural pool.
- Continue to Majunga.
- Dinner and overnight at Coco Lodge.
DAY 9: Majunga / Red Cirques / Majunga
- Morning visit of Majunga on foot or by rickshaw (optional) — local market, colonial architecture of Majunga Be, dhow port, seaside promenade with its iconic 500-year-old baobab.
- Lunch at a restaurant.
- Afternoon excursion to Red Cirques — striking natural site sculpted by erosion in red ochre soil, ideal at sunset.
- Return to Majunga early evening.
- Dinner at THI-LAN restaurant and overnight at Coco Lodge.
DAY 10: Majunga / Lake Mangatsa / Antsanitia
- Early departure to Lake Mangatsa, a sacred Sakalava site with naturally filtered clear water, home to giant carps and moray eels.
- Visit the second, wilder lake, source of the first, and the sacred thousand-branch baobab (Bozy Be). Observe crowned sifakas (white lemurs), then visit an enclosure of 6 Nile crocodiles — nesting in October and hatching in November.
- Picnic lunch.
- Afternoon transfer to Antsanitia.
- Dinner and overnight at Antsanitia Resort.
DAY 10 and DAY 11: Antsanitia
- Free days for relaxation and beach time at Antsanitia.
- Full board and overnight at Antsanitia Resort.
DAY 12: Antsanitia / Majunga Airport
- Transfer to Amborovy Airport (according to flight schedule).
