Itinerary

DAY 1: Tana
  • Arrival in Antananarivo
  • Transfer by car to the hotel.
  • Rest day.
  • Overnight with half board at Les Flots Bleus hotel.
DAY 2: Tana / Fort Dauphin
  • Transfer to the airport (depending on flight schedule), flight to Fort Dauphin.
  • Arrival in Fort Dauphin, welcome by the Anjara Voyage team.
  • Departure by car for a guided city tour. Fort Dauphin, also called "Tolagnaro," is a city that has preserved its historical heritage.
  • Long occupied by Europeans in the 17th century, Fort Dauphin, which served as a trading post, was named in honor of King Louis XIV. It was also the starting point for the very first settlement of Reunion Island. Nestled on a promontory at the foot of Saint Louis Peak, Fort Dauphin offers a magnificent landscape, one of the most spectacular in Madagascar. Depending on your available time, you will discover many colonial-era historical sites, including Sainte Luce, a fishing village with crescent-shaped beaches lined with casuarina trees and palm trees backed by forest. You can also visit Fort Flacourt, the remains of an old bastion, the Anosy Museum (which traces colonial history), or the Portuguese Fort — all historical places to discover and visit. Meet and exchange with the Antanosy ethnic group to learn about their customs, clothing, sewing, and gastronomy.
  • Overnight full board at Talinjoo Hotel.
DAY 3: Fort Dauphin / Berenty
  • Departure in the morning for Berenty.
  • Visit to the private Berenty Reserve.
  • Since its foundation in 1936 by the de Heaulme family, this reserve has aimed to protect lemurs and their natural habitat: dense gallery forest dominated by tamarinds and dry spiny forest. Opened to the public in 1981, it has gained international renown. Many public figures have visited, including Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and the son of the Emperor of Japan. A reference site for scientists, it is now frequented by travelers eager to discover the animal and plant diversity of these over 1,000 hectares of protected area. A true sanctuary for the 2,000 lemurs living freely, the Berenty Reserve lets you discover 102 bird species and over 100 others: reptiles, turtles, bats... The natural and floral varieties, such as forests, red sands, and bush, offer a unique endemic spectacle. In the heart of Berenty, magic happens.
  • Picnic lunch during the visit.
  • Dinner and overnight at Berenty Lodge.
DAY 4: Berenty / Lavanono
  • Early departure to descend RN13 and then reach the coast.
  • The south of Madagascar is probably the driest region of the island but also possibly the most amazing in terms of biodiversity and landscapes. It is probably the only part of the island where the spiny forest remains intact in some areas within a semi-desert ecosystem.
  • Passing through the villages of Ambovombe and Tsihombe.
  • Meeting and exchanging with the so-called Antandroy ethnic groups.
  • Lunch en route.
  • Arrival in Lavanono.
  • Dinner and overnight at Lavanono Lodge.
DAY 5: Lavanono / Itampolo
  • The road to Itampolo crosses vast areas where the didierea, euphorbia, and aloe plants thrive. This stage will surely leave you with the most intense memories! The landscape is unexpected and grandiose, and the people you will meet here, like all Malagasy, are always smiling and welcoming.
  • Lunch en route. Arrival in Itampolo.
  • Dinner and overnight at Milahehe guesthouse.
DAY 6: Itampolo / Anakao
