Descent of the Tsiribihina

Itinerary

DAY 1: Ivato Airport / Antananarivo
  • Welcome at Ivato airport (depending on flight schedule).
  • Transfer to the hotel.
  • Full board or half board (depending on arrival time) and overnight at Le Colbert hotel.
DAY 2: Antananarivo / Miandrivazo
  • Drive to Miandrivazo. The town of Miandrivazo is known as the hottest in Madagascar, with almost no wind due to its geographical location. Miandrivazo is also the starting point for descending the Tsiribihina River by canoe, an unforgettable experience. From the upper part of the town, enjoy a panoramic view over the valley where the Sakeny, Mahajo, and Manio rivers join the Tsiribihina.

DAY 3: Miandrivazo / Malaimbandy / Makay
  • Drive to Malaimbandy before taking 2 to 3 hours of off-road track to reach the northern base of the Makay massif (starting point of the expedition).
  • Picnic lunch on the way.
  • Dinner and overnight in bivouac.
DAY 4 - Day 8: Makay
  • 5 days of trekking in the north of Makay, 6 to 7 hours walking per day. The Makay massif, in southwest Madagascar, is one of the island’s last unexplored areas. This hiking circuit will immerse you in this extraordinary zone off the beaten track and will delight lovers of vast spaces and walking. Its unique geography of sandstone massifs, forests, and lakes gives it an inaccessible character and an exceptional rate of endemic fauna and flora. Let yourself be guided to discover the biodiversity richness of the massif, home to many animal species such as parrots and birds of prey (buzzards, kites, and striped polyboroids).

DAY 9: Makay / Antsirabe
  • After breakfast, drive to Antsirabe. Visit Lake Tritriva. Located southwest of Antsirabe, it seems surrounded by myths and mysteries, fascinating lovers of tragic love stories. Legend has it that two thwarted lovers ended their lives here. Moreover, its dark waters enhance the strange impression it gives visitors.
  • Once at the top of Mount Tritriva, enjoy its breathtaking viewpoint.
  • Picnic lunch.
  • Dinner and overnight at Royale Palace.
DAY 10: Antsirabe / Antananarivo / Ivato Airport
  • After breakfast, departure to Antananarivo. If flight schedule allows, visit the Blue Hill "Ambohimanga" for an introduction to the royal history of the Merina kingdom.
  • Lunch at a restaurant.
  • Visit the craft market of La Digue in the afternoon.
  • After dinner, transfer to the airport (depending on flight schedule).
